Volunteer

Yamba River Markets is operated by volunteers and coordinated by Live Prawn Productions Inc, a not-for-profit association which holds the market licence. We distribute profits to support arts and cultural activities in the Clarence Valley.

Why volunteer with us?

People volunteer with us because they enjoy the camaraderie of the markets and because they love giving back to their community. We generally view the markets as our monthly catch-up with friends and acquaintances, while enjoying a great outdoor setting. Once stallholders have been guided on site and the Market Info Yurt and large shade structures assembled, we kick back with a cup of coffee to enjoy the free live music.

What’s involved?

Volunteer roles include checking in stallholders from 6.30am, or attending the Info Yurt later in the morning - the markets run from 9am to 2pm but are generally set up by 8am - and handling cash payments for sites.

Manual roles include assembling the bamboo Info Yurt structure and big shade cloth that help create the market’s village square atmosphere. To support this crew, please be on site by 6.30am for roughly an hour, followed by another hour from around 1pm onwards. The work is not difficult and does not require heavy lifting, although many hands make light work!

How else can volunteers help out?

Volunteers also get involved in other activities at the markets such as running workshops for kids, such as our popular kite-making workshops.

To participate in activities involving children, a valid Working With Children Check is required. As a volunteer you can register for it here. There’s no cost.

Will I be insured?

All volunteers at Yamba River Markets are covered by our volunteer insurance policy, plus we provide free opportunities for volunteers to acquire or renew their First Aid certificate.
