Rubbish Notice

October 2021

LPP has been trying to find solutions to the ongoing issues with the rubbish for several years.

These issues are:

  • Separating the different types of rubbish; landfill, recycle, green waste

  • Educating people as to appropriate bin use

  • Stallholders dumping extra waste in market bins.

There are two important points to be made here:

  1. LPP is not a waste management committee.

  2. LPP does not produce the waste.

We are working to instigate a permanent change to this situation whereby the people responsible for generating the rubbish, deal with it. This is mostly the food and drink stalls. A few possibilities have been suggested:

a. Stalls generating waste provide their own bins. Stall holders will then be responsible for removing and disposing of the waste deposited in their bins.

b. Stalls use a container deposit system.

c. We all encourage customers to BYO containers.

It is hoped that such action will encourage better use of the planets resources by sending a message to suppliers and the general public, that we do not want single use containers at the market or in our community in general.

We would like to note that some stalls are already taking steps in this direction.

After a consultation period a decision will be made and all relevant parties informed before implementation.

We are happy to consider any ideas that will help to eliminate rubbish at the market.
